People protesting Avatar, because there's "No Gays" in it.
Thanks, [info]cutelildrow, you just broke my brain.

You know what?  We know of two couples in Avatar.  The spoiler, and the chief and his wife.  You also know what?  While those two are heterosexual, everybody else in the movie could be gay, and you wouldn't know.  Because most people don't blatantly show off their sexuality.  Is the complaint that there isn't any flamingly obvious homosexuals?  Something to note:  Most movies don't have that.  Yes, that's a shame.  Should Avatar have been on that platform?  That really depends on what the script writer wanted.  Cat points out that at one point someone says "You must choose a woman."  Guess what -- this is a tribal people, and procreation probably plays a big role in this.  She also points out that 'invisibility' is a problem -- I will agree with this also, but I also agree with her in that these people should be picking their battles a lot smarter.

Really, Avatar is not the movie to pick for this specific complaint.  Seriously.

The Royal Bank called me today, to inform me my credit card has been frozen.  Why?  Because it was used in Toronto, without my permission.  So, they've asked me to come to the nearest RBC and get it replaced.  It feels good to know they're keeping tabs on this kind of thing and are able to prevent fraud like that.  I've not had this happen before, and I'm wondering how my card information had been gained, too.

Ah well.  Not like I have a lot of money on the card or anything.  Still...
Funny thing.  This is my first time being a victim of identity theft -- and I'm taking it rather well.  I feel sort of 'oh bother' about this, but the RBC's dealt with it already, so I don't feel so bad about it.  I'm in a very, 'meh, it happens' sort of mindset.

Mind you, that's kind of my mindset for a lot of things.  o.O

[info]vickshb, [info]shizouka, [info]merimask.  I'm very sorry.  :(
For those who don't know, Darkwolfie contracted H1N1 earlier in the month and slipped into a coma.  He passed on very recently.  I didn't know him, but I noticed some of my friends did, and thought they should be informed.

If you haven't got your H1N1 shot, and are capable of getting it, please do so.

I might be overly cynical, but those people who scream that 'group X' who has a different ideology than them are 'taking away our freedoms' are usually the same people who, if they were allowed to, would take freedoms away from 'group X'.  Basically, it seems to me, that they're terrified that 'group X' is trying to do to them what they would do, if they were capable of it.

Example:  You have people who scream that Athiests are trying to take away religious freedoms.  However, there is currently a Christian attempt to remove a governor from power because it has been discovered that he's an Athiest.  Fortunately, in the US, the 1st and 6th amendment prevents this happening, but they're hoping to tie this up in court a long time, thus preventing him from doing his job.

Just something that's made me a bit grumpy today.

What was it?  Don't point out the speck in your neighbour's eye, until you've removed the beam from your own?

Basically, any group who is overly paranoid about such things are probably the same people who would do that sort of thing.  If they weren't the sort to do it, it most likely would'nt even come to mind.  Sort of a 'I have to stab you in the back, before you stab me in the back' sort of thing.  Why would the guy stab you in the back, because that's what you would do if you were in their situation.  So obviously that must be what they're thinking!

Grr.  Asshats.

So, last night, I had a dream.  My parents were going to be moving back to Calgary, and Cat and I were going with them (since apparently we lived in the same house).  Plans were being made, and we were trying to figure out what to do since we would be moving tomorrow.  It was annoying, because we had to pack, and miss a friend's wedding reception.

Cat borrowed dad's motorcycle (with his permission, which blew me away -- I knew if I'd asked, he'd say no), and I used my own bike (though I wasn't sure why I had a motorcycle myself), and we started driving around.  I had a plan, so Cat and I pulled over at a shopping mall to talk.  We bumped into a friend of mine (Minako, though in the dream Minako was human even though it was the character 'Minako') who just happened to work there (which also surprised me, since I hadn't known that), and I tried to explain what was going on.

Cat kept cutting me off, and I started getting annoyed, since she was presuming she knew what my idea was.  I finally asked her what she thought I was going to say, she got it wrong, then she started getting snippy at me.  Finally, I was able to explain that we could possibly live with her parents and pay rent there, or, alternatively, rent my parent's place from them until we could afford to move into our own home.

I started waking up around there, mildly annoyed at the whole 'being interrupted' thing, but the more interesting parts of the dream offset that.

Dear Santa...

Dear Santa,

This year I've been busy!

Last Friday I gave [info]philfoglioa Dutch Oven (-10 points). In November I ate my brussel sprouts (1 points). In May I stole [info]brianyoon's purse (-30 points). In August I ruled Canada as a cruel and heartless dictator (-700 points). Last Saturday I saved a busload of nuns in Angola (326 points).

Overall, I've been naughty (-413 points). For Christmas I deserve a spanking!

Sincerely,
Tashiro

Dec. 10th, 2009 @ 07:31 pm Sales So Far
Current Location: Home
Current Mood: moody
Fox Magic has had five sales.  I know three people specifically who purchased a copy, leaving two sales I know nothing about.  (By 'know', I mean, they've told me 'I bought a copy'.)  Six review copies were taken (people who do reviews for RPG Now, and thus don't pay for a copy of the PDF).  So far, we've not seen any reviews from these people.  One person I know asked for a copy to do a review, and we've given them a copy.  This person I'm pretty sure I can trust on writing a review -- this is what they do, so I'm satisfied there.

I'm of mixed feelings about this.  While I'm happy to have any sales at all, there's a weird feeling about the whole thing.  I mean, I'm happy that my friends are supporting me and buying a copy because they're interested in it.  Having my friends support me makes me feel good.  However, if more than half your sales are from friends, then what?  It means the interest in the game outside of your friends is... negligable?  That sort of stings.  I've been making an effort to advertise where I can, trying to drum up interest without trying to be a pain in the rump.  It doesn't seem to be helping much.

The review copies thing bothers me.  We've had people get review copies of some of our other games (the Mhar series), and not get any reviews at all about them.  That there's six review copies out, and not a 'boo' or anything about it (and seriously, Fox Magic is a pretty slim book) bothers Kevin, and bothers me too.  Kevin's mentioned that if we don't get six reviews out of those copies, he'll be contacting RPG Now with a complaint.  I don't blame him, really.  If you're taking a review copy and not doing a review of it just so you can get 'free stuff'... Kevin calls that stealing.  I'm inclined to agree.  Sure, one or two?  Maybe.  But six?

So, this is a side of having a game out I'd not considered, and now I'm having to seriously reflect on how I feel about this.

xiandreiix:  I wouldn't mind a job at home in the winter, though. Oklahoma winters are quite blah.
me:  You don't want to look outside my window then... ;)
We're snowing.  It is coming down in buckets.
xiandreiix:  Yeah.. we're luckier than the states North.
 me:  <-- Canada.
 xiandreiix:  Ohhh. Yeah, no thanks.
 me:  :D
xiandreiix:  Pretty up there, but no way live there.
me:  Yeah, I know.  The dog sled's hard to maintain, and during the summer I have to worry about my igloo shrinking.  ;)
xiandreiix:  eh? You don;t have a car?
 me:  Actually, no, I don't.
Neither does me wife.  That kind of limits our mobility.
xiandreiix:  I guess I don't understand your situation. Igloo, a dog sled, yet you have internet.
 me:  ... um.
No, I don't have a dog sled, nor do I have an igloo.  :D
I just walk or take the bus.  :)  I live in a town house.
 xiandreiix:  Ok.. got ya. LOL.
 me:  Oy yoi.
 xiandreiix:  xD
Lol, you love me.

So, last night, I got inspired for a new rule for Fox Magic.  D'oh.  Ah well.  I'm writing an article for the next issue of The Grimoire, which will include two optional rules for Fox Magic, and a discussion of how to combine various SPS games (like the upcoming Cloak and Dagger game).  This is working out rather well, mind you, I'm looking forward to getting this article finished and sent to Kevin.

In other news, sales are -- slow, but steady.  Last I heard, we had five sales.  I'm quite happy with that, though I'm wondering how many more I'll get before it more or less stops.  It is a PDF game, thus meaning I'm more or less limited on how I can advertise it.  One of the places I'd normally advertise has ceased to exist, which makes things a touch harder.  It is a niche game, admittedly, but the potential in the game goes far beyond that, and I think if I was able to spread the word more, it would do much better.

Still, when the book comes out in print, that should help.  If I'm lucky (knock on wood), the game will do well enough that I could get Cloak and Dagger printed.  That would be nice.  We'll see.  It might wind up being PoD, but I've heard that can be pretty difficult.  Still, one can hope.

This is the most detailed account I have seen of the war in Afghanistan in quite some time.  It is a very gripping read actually.  It lays out quite clearly how things are playing out, the hardships, and what is at stake.

When I address an older man that I respect, I use the title sir.
Now, here's what stumps me.  What do I call an older woman that I wish to be respectful to, when you aren't using their name?

Ma'am doesn't work.
Miss doesn't work.

I have no idea what to use.
